Getafe have reportedly tabled a huge bid to make Mason Greenwood's loan move from Manchester United permanent.

According to the La Liga side are prepared to almost quadruple their transfer record by offering United £40m ($51.2m) to sign the forward. Reports have also linked Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid to Greenwood, who's strong performances in Spain have won praise from his manager Jose Bordalas and Atletico's Antoine Griezmann.

United took the decision topart ways withthe player after the conclusion of a six-month investigation into his conduct off the field. Greenwood's strong showings after 20 months on the sidelines raise further questions for his parent club, who face the choice of controversially bringing the player back to Old Trafford or commanding a large fee for the player who is under contract with United until the summer of 2025.
The decision is likely to be made by those appointed by incoming minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe who will take charge of football operations and player recruitment at the club.

If reports of Getafe's bid are correct, the eye-watering figure represents a huge amount of money to a club whose current transfer record stands at €11.8million (£10.3m/$13.1m). That was the fee that Getafe paid Barcelona for the services of full-back Marc Cucurella in 2020 before selling him on for a profit to Brighton a year later.
