Arsenal legend David Seaman has urged Bernd Leno to be patient waiting for his chance at the club, he told The Daily Star.
What’s the word?
Signed from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer, many expected Germany international Bernd Leno to become first-choice for Unai Emery’s Arsenal side but that has not proven to be the case as Petr Cech has remained the number one at the club.
Shaky performances have led to many calling for changes between the sticks and for Leno to be brought into the starting line-up but Emery, despite Cech yet to enjoy a clean sheet this season, has stuck by the veteran stopper.
As such, Leno is still waiting for his Arsenal debut and he has been urged to continue being patient by Gunners legend David Seaman in comments made to The Daily Star.
What was said?
“Just because he cost a lot of money does not mean he goes straight into the team. He has to be patient. Petr Cech has done nothing wrong in goal.
“Ok, so he is adjusting to playing with the ball from the box. But he has been able to contribute to the team and has done nothing to cause him to be left out.
“This could be a learning curve for him. You have to be patient in football. I had to be in the past when I was playing. Leno has to bide his time.”
Is Seaman right?
While Seaman is correct in stating that Leno must remain patient waiting for his chance at Arsenal, he is wrong to suggest that Cech has done nothing wrong in goal. While he is yet to concede via an error, there have been huge signs of concern.

Emery is clearly trying to install a specific style of play onto his Arsenal side which includes the goalkeeper playing from the back, which is something Cech has struggled with in the opening four matches of the new season.
It seems that an error is right around the corner for Cech and the writing is on the wall that his long-term future at Arsenal is finished, which is why it is strange to see Leno continually overlooked. However, he is likely to get his chance in the Europa League.
