At 36 years of age, Bournemouth striker Jermain Defoe is certainly in the twilight of his playing career. The 57-cap former England man is currently on the fringes of the Cherries’ first team squad and has amassed only 21 minutes of Premier League action so far this season across four late substitute appearances.
Whilst the veteran forward may not be up to playing week in, week out for Eddie Howe’s high-flying Bournemouth side, the man with 273 senior career goals could still make a contribution at Championship level.

Aston Villa would therefore be wise to act in the January transfer window to secure the services of Defoe for the second-half of the second-tier campaign.
Villa have been resurgent under the guidance of new boss Dean Smith. The Villans will now fancy their chances of making a push for the play-offs and Defoe’s goals could certainly help fire them to that aim.
