Modric made his final appearance for Madrid on Saturday as they rounded off the 2024-25 La Liga campaign against Real Sociedad, winning 2-0 courtesy of a brace by Kylian Mbappe. It was earlier announced that the veteran midfielder would exit the club this summer after the expiry of his current deal.

Former Madrid star Kroos, who was Modric's midfield partner for a decade, was in attendance at the Santiago Bernabeu a year after he retired from the game and the German star caught up with the maestro and gave him a hug.

Saturday's La Liga clash was also manager Carlo Ancelotti's farewell game, with Madrid announcing the arrival of Xabi Alonso on Sunday. The Spanish coach's first assignment in charge of the team will be the Club World Cup next month. They play Al-Hilal in their tournament opener on June 18.
